What is the Pinetics SOM?

The Pinetics SOM is a compact System-on-Module built around the NXP i.MX 8M Plus processor, featuring quad Cortex-A53 cores at 1.8 GHz, a dedicated 2.3 TOPS NPU for edge AI, and integrated Wi-Fi 6 / Bluetooth 5.3 — designed for industrial, medical, defence, and IoT applications.

What operating systems are supported?

The Pinetics SOM currently supports Yocto Embedded Linux. We also provide official Board Support Packages (BSPs) including Yocto Linux images, device-tree configurations and getting-started documentation.

What is the Pinetics Carrier Board?

The Pinetics Carrier Board is a purpose-built evaluation and development board that exposes all SOM interfaces — including HDMI, USB 3.1, dual Gigabit Ethernet, MIPI CSI/DSI, CAN FD, and GPIO — enabling rapid prototyping and production deployment.

When will the SOM be available for shipping?

The Pinetics SOM is scheduled for release in July 2026. Customers who participate in the pre-booking phase will receive priority shipping. All units are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis according to the date of order reservation.

What are the RAM and storage options?

The SOM is available with 1 GB to 8 GB LPDDR4 RAM and 8 GB to 128 GB eMMC 5.1 flash storage. Contact us for custom configurations if your project requires specific memory combinations.

Is the SOM suitable for AI and machine-learning workloads?

Yes. The integrated 2.3 TOPS Neural Processing Unit accelerates inference for tasks like object detection, image classification, anomaly detection, and natural-language processing at the edge — without requiring a cloud connection.

How does the pre-booking process work?
